DESERT DWELLER
premiere january 2014 - Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts - Illinois - USA
Desert Dweller is a work that talks about solitude, a universal human emotion, complex and unique for each individual. Loneliness, according to many experts, is not necessarily about being alone.
Soares found the concept for creation this piece by investigating the isolation perceived and inspired by the music of the composer and cellist Julia Kent. Solitude is not necessarily about being literally alone, "explains Soares." I am interested in the feeling of being alone while surrounded by other people. "
The project was one of the winners of the National Choreographic Competition 2013/2014 promoted annually by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
